Crest High School has named Mark Barnes as the next head football coach of the Chargers. Coach Barnes has served as head football coach and athletic director at Brevard High School for the last two years.
Prior to going to Brevard, Coach Barnes was head football coach at Scotland High School for 16 years. His overall record at Scotland is 135-57. He earned three conference championships and 13 state playoff berths. His team reached the 2002 state AAAA Quarter Finals.
Prior to Scotland High Coach Barnes was head football coach at Reidsville High School for 3 years with a 23-12 overall record.
Coach Barnes served as the offensive coordinator at Richmond Senior High School before moving to Scotland County. His awards include:
- 2009-10 President of NC Football Coaches Association
- 2001 NC Shrine Bowl Coach
- 2001 East/West All Star Coach
- Southeastern Conference Football Coach of the Year in 1997, 1994, 1993.
- He has been a head football coach for 21 years with a 170-81 overall record.
- He is married with two children.
