Crest opened up a 27-0 lead at halftime and cruised to a 34-0 win over Q-Foundation at Sid Bryson Stadium on Friday night.
The Chargers (1-1) picked up their first win of the young season heading into next Friday’s game at home against archrival Shelby (1-1).
Crest senior running back Quortez Wright tallied two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, running for scores of 4 and 11 yards. Sophomore quarterback Michael Gullatte connected with Demonte Wilson on a 25-yard score early in the second quarter, while Michael Smith capped the first half with a 7-yard rushing touchdown.
Smith tallied the final touchdown of the night for the Chargers on a 3-yard run with just under five minutes left in the third quarter.
Chargers freshman quarterback P.J. Brooks sustained a second-quarter injury and did not return. Crest was also without junior quarterback Gene Surratt, who was not dressed for the game.
The game marked the first-ever contest between Crest and Q Foundation, a Charlotte school who fields a team of players in grades 9-12 who are actively pursuing their General Educational Development (GED) certification. Q Foundation has previously suffered losses to Burns (2010) and Kings Mountain (2009). Q Foundation will be back in Cleveland County on Sept. 16 to face Burns.
Please be sure to come to our game next week, at Sid Bryson Stadium for the Chargers versus the Shelby High Golden Lions. Also, before the game for $8.00 per plate you can either pick up or eat in a meal catered by Graham's Fish Camp, of Gastonia.
